Web designers should design websites which are informative and simple to use. A good looking impression also helps and most vital thing is you should always aim for a good user experience which makes web visitors to visit time after time. Even if your are selling the essential product on the planet if your website is not properly designed you won’t be able to sell anything because web visitors will consider choosing your products and services only by your website look and easiness to use.

A few things to check out while designing a website are, accessibility, W3C compliant code, un-confusing design & layout, customer friendly interface, overall user experience and of course not forgetting professional graphic design.

Things to avoid while designing a website are as follows:

1) Background Sound

Barring band websites, MP3 music download sites or anything music related… looping background music should always be avoided. It sound great initially, but if you have a many pages and each time a visitor visits another page on your website, the background music begins to. Almost all visitors will leave your site altogether. Background music just adds to the visitor’s annoyance as the have t owait for a longer time for all your web pages to load.

2) Text sizes which are too big or too small

Just good website design and good graphic design never make a great site. There is much more to it such as user friendliness and web accessibility has huge part to play. Make sure all website text are legible and reasonably sized to allow your web visitors to read it without a strain on their eyes. Never mind how good your content is or your sales copy, if it’s not legible you won’t be selling anything anytime soon.

3) Annoying Pop ups

Pop ups or pop up windows are so annoying to most of them when they display advertisements that are simply not worth paying any attention to. Consequently most users close them immediately the moment one ‘pops up’ especially if it has gotten past your pop up blocker (most people have these installed these days). These pop up at some time may hide a very important portion of your site or a message to convey. Which simply gets closed 99% of the time when it appears on a web visitor’s screen? Your web site can lose its functionality right there and then.
